20-year old Jake Burdett is being charged with illegal wiretapping after he recorded a meeting with a congressional staffer and then broadcast it on Facebook Live.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports the Salisbury University Student is a member of a number of progressive group.
He was part of a protest outside the office of Representative Andy Harris sponsored by Working with Maryland Marijuana Justice.
A congressional staffer offered to meet with them but once inside the Salisbury office they were told they could not record anything as part of office policy.
Prosecutors say that Burdett secretly recorded the meeting and broadcast it on Facebook Live.
The Daily Times reports that Burdett has said in an email that once he was aware that it was illegal he deleted the recording the next day.
Harris has been opposed to the legalization of marijuana.
