Wilmington Settles Pool Lawsuit with Muslim School

creative commons

Wilmington will pay out $50-thousand in a lawsuit by a Muslim school.

The settlement revolves around an incident in which students were asked to leave a city pool in June of last year.

The reason: the 5-and-6 year-old girls were wearing headscarves.

They were also wearing T-shirts and leggings.

The suit says they were told to leave the pool immediately.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the pool manager at the time Glenda Pinkett cited a ban on cotton clothing in the pool.

In addition, the city has promised to revise its policies and train its staff.

The paper reports that after initially defending the action Mayor Mike Purzycki issued an apology saying that the city must be accountable.
