Maryland Congressman Andy Harris said no to an $867 billion reauthorization of the farm and food nutrition aid legislation.
While the measure got strong support from agricultural officials and environmentalists on Delmarva the Eastern Shore Republican said he opposed the measure because he could not support some of the changes in the final compromise.
Salisbury Daily Times reports that Harris supported changes that would have added work requirements for the stamp program for able bodied adults without dependents and forest management to prevent forest fires like those in California.
He also wanted the repeal of an Obama era 2015 water rule that was original in the House bill.
Other Delmarva lawmakers supported the measure including the Senators from Maryland, Delaware and Virginia.
