A new study by the Business Economic and Community Outreach Network (BEACON) found that the National Folk Festival in Salisbury this year was a success.
It’s executive director Memo Diriker said in general terms the event did better than expected despite the rain.
It’s estimated that around 60-thousand attended the event with an around 40 percent coming from outside the area.
WBOC reports that Diriker said the outreach through earned and social media had the most impact.
He estimated that the social media was worth around $200-thousand in traditional ads.
Mayor Jake Day said there were traffic issues and looks to solve those for next year’s festival.
