MILFORD, Del. (AP) - A Delaware doctor has had his medical license and controlled substance privileges suspended for failing to safely prescribe opioids.
News outlets report state documents say Ifeanyi Udezulu also ignored red flags like anonymous calls about his patients selling his prescriptions and the results of drug screens.
The Delaware Department of State ordered an emergency temporary suspension of his license Nov. 20, saying he "repeatedly prescribed opioids to four patients without obtaining informed consent for treatment" and didn't discuss the risks and benefits of the drugs. The state investigation found he also improperly maintained patient records.
Udezulu's Delaware medical license was issued in 2004. His response to the state order asserts the complaint has factual inaccuracies.
Disciplinary hearings will be held during the 60-day license suspension.
