Chincoteague Pony Dies of "Swamp Cancer"

crative commons wikimedia

Chincoteague pony Essie has died of swamp cancer.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports seven who had contracted the disease underwent surgery for the disease which is not a true cancer.

Denise Bowden with the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company said on Facebook that the other ponies look like they are doing fine.

The fire company is responsible for the ponies which make a swim every year for an auction that raises money for the firefighters.

The Chincoteague Pony Pedigree records Essie was sold at auction but donated back.

Last year two ponies died from swamp cancer but Essie is the first this year.
