creative commons

The Jewish community in Delaware held a vigil over the weekend for the eleven killed during a shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that Rabbi Jacob Lieberman of Temple Beth El in Newark said that all are in pain and afraid.

He said, “For our grief, this is an opportunity to mourn. For our outrage, this is a time to cry out.”

Senator Tom Carper led the crowd in prayer while Senator Chris Coons called for more services for the mentally ill and more gun safety laws.

The News Journal reports that Delaware Congressional member Lisa Blunt Rochester and Governor John Carney also spoke.

The Anti-Defamation League says there was a nearly 60 percent increase in the number of anti-Semitic incidents last year than there was in 2016.
