Mathias & Carozza Debate

Incumbent Democratic state Senator Jim Mathias squared off against Republican Challenger Delegate Mary Beth Carozza last night on the campus of Salisbury University.

And the name heard most often during the debate was Governor Larry Hogan.

Both touted their work with the Republican Governor who is leading in the polls against Democratic challenger Ben Jealous.

On opioids the Eastern Shore Democrat noted that there has been a 15 percent jump in overdose deaths and said he was working strongly with Hogan in a bipartisan way to deal with the epidemic.

Meanwhile, Carozza said that she supported treatment and recovery.

The scandals at Eastern Correctional Institution in Somerset County made an appearance last night.

Corazza said that the number of officers at the facility must be increased.

Meanwhile, Mathias said that he has been urging the governor to get to the bottom of the problems at the institution.
