Those thinking of driving across the Delaware Memorial Bridge tonight are advised that traffic will get a little slower.

Contractors are set to repair an expansion joint over the next three days and there will be multiple lane closures.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that tonight the two left lanes on the New Jersey span will close at 8 p.m. with another an hour later.

By 1 a.m. expect rolling lane closures leading to the two right lanes on the New Jersey-boundside.

The lanes are expected to be reopened by 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

Additional closures will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Virginia/DC Memorial Bridge

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Commuters who use the Memorial Bridge to navigate between Virginia and the District of Columbia are facing two years of headaches.

Beginning Monday, the six-lane bridge over the Potomac River will be reduced to three lanes as the National Park Service delves into the heart of a $227 million rehabilitation project announced last year.

The Park Service plans on weekdays to run two inbound lanes in the morning and one outbound lane. That will reverse on weekday afternoons and evenings.

On weekends and holidays, two lanes will be inbound and one will be outbound.

The bridge was dedicated in 1932 and connects the Lincoln Memorial to Arlington National Cemetery. It  as designed as a symbolic connection between the North and South.

The lane restrictions are expected to remain through 2020.
