VA Senator Now Backs Assault Weapons Ban

official photo

Senator Mark Warner says he has changed his mind when it comes to a nationwide ban on assault weapons.

The Huffington Post is reporting that the Virginia Democrat is now calling for the enactment of such legislation as the nation marks the one year anniversary of the mass shooting in Las Vegas.

Warner says he is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment.

But in an op-ed in the Washington Post he writes that he has come to this decision after the failure of congress to take any real action against mass shootings.

There was a similar moratorium on the sale of assault weapons from 1994 to 2004.

He was one of 15 Democrats who voted against renewing the ban.

Warner adds it was vote he has struggled with ever since.
