Delaware officials say they have confirmed the first two cases of West Nile Virus in horses this year.

The outbreak involved a three year-old and two year-old – both in Kent County.

Officials said the virus is generally transmitted through mosquito bites which generally occurred during the height of the mosquito season.

Two cases were detected last year as well.

Delaware officials urge horse owners to have their animals vaccinated.
