There have been more than 300 rescues by the beach patrol in Ocean City over the weekend.
City officials say there were 123 on Friday and 142 on Saturday.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports the beach patrol said that number then dropped to 59 by Sunday as the rip currents subsided.
Beach Patrol Captain Butch Arbin says that if you are caught in a rip current you should swim sideways.
If that does not work, he says, a lifeguard will come out with a hand buoy.
Meanwhile, in Rehoboth Beach Captain Kent Buckson told the paper that there had been around 80 rescues last week into the weekend.
Buckson says that Rehoboth will close its beaches if the surf becomes difficult.
It did so on the July 7 weekend.
