Delaware Highway Fatalities Up

Don Rush

Roadway deaths in Delaware are outpacing last year’s numbers.

The Delaware Office of Highway Safety reports that so far this year there have been 61 fatalities.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that’s compared to last year at this time when the figure stood at 47.

That number had been down from 2016 which saw 55 fatalities and 67 the year before.

Transportation Chief Traffic Engineer Mark Luszcz  told the paper that it was difficult to know why the number was up this year.

He said his department was looking into distracted driving and heavier roadway traffic.

But he added a solution remains elusive.
