OC Boardwalk Protection Project Cost Skyrockets

Don Rush

The cost of protecting the Ocean City Boardwalk just got a lot higher.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the City Engineer Terry McGean says in order to secure all of the entry points it will run $4.2 million.

That’s four times the original estimate.

The paper reports that Mayor Rick Meehan’s reaction was to call it sticker shock.

But he added to carry out the project properly the plan does provide the protection for the boardwalk that city officials want.

The project was conceived following a number of attacks on pedestrians with vehicles in this country and around the world in recent years.

City officials say no such attacks have taken place in the resort but add they want to be proactive.
