An investigation by the board of the Interfaith Community Housing of Delaware is looking into the nonprofit’s construction training program.
Members of the board gathered at an emergency session on Monday after the Wilmington News Journal reported alleged abuses in the organization’s HomeWorks “pre-apprenticeship program.
Paper reports that former participants said they often worked for free on Interfaith projects that included renovations to the nonprofit’s office and home of a staff member.
The organization is also under investigation by state labor law enforcement.
But the paper reports that the group’s board wanted to carry out its own probe.
Board member Vash Turner said that while the board wanted to review the program and its records it was too soon for any personnel changes.
