Two rallies converged on Legislative Hall in Dover yesterday.

One was for equal rights for women.

Several dozen showed up with some of Delaware’s top elected officials to show their support for amending the state constitution.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that House Majority Leader Valarie Longhurst, “Today is the day we break through the glass ceiling.”

The measure would include a single sentence, which reads, “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged on account of the sex of the person.”

Then there was a rally for supporters of gun rights on the other side of Legislative Hall.

They saw dozens of lawmakers and oppose proposed legislation in the state Senate that would ban the sale of assault weapons.

They also oppose raising the age to buy a firearm from 18 to 21.
