Delaware Could Consider Tightening Alcohol Blood Level

creative commons

Delaware lawmakers are looking to lower the threshold for drunk driving from .08 to .05 for blood alcohol content.

That would make the First State the second to drop its threshold to below the national standard.

Representative Joseph Miro (R-DE) the bill’s chief sponsor told the Wilmington News Journal that while there is no guarantee he hope it will make the road safer.

He said if there are more people looking at DUI charges because of the lower threshold people will be more conscious of it.

But the American Beverage Institute told the paper that the measure would only criminalize what is now considered to be responsible drinking.

Utah has the strictest alcohol levels by being the first to adopt the .05 standard.
