The award winning author and illustrator Vashti Harrison spoke to students at her alma mater in Accomack County.
The 29-year-old won the NAACP Image Award in January for her children’s book “Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History”.
The work gives young people a chance to learn about 40 black women who have contributed the American experience.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that she spoke to elementary and middle school students during an appearance at Nandua High School.
She told the students that it took time for her to figure out what she what she wanted to do in life.
And she encouraged students to practice their skills and be persistent in their passion as they decide what career they wanted to pursue.
