Environmental Project Fund Falls Short in Delaware

NOAA

A program that helps communities in Delaware support gardens, parks, trails and other environmentally oriented projects is running low on funds.

The Community Environmental Project Fund which once boasted $2.2 million on hand has found itself down to just over $21-thousand.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that this is the result of decreasing revenues from fines and a $100-thousand accounting error.

Originally the agency believed it had $130-thousand dollars before discovering the clerical problem.

The number of applications for funds totals $198-thousand.

The Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary Shawn Garvin told the paper that no one believed that the agency would be in this condition.

As a result many applications will be denied because of the funding shortfall.
