WW II Airman Laid to Rest in Delaware

U.S. Military

Lt. Stanley Stegnerski was finally laid to rest yesterday in Delaware after his plane was shot down over Germany during World War II.

WBOC reports that a German historian found a piece of his P-51 in a farmer’s field in 2007.

In 2016 the German government excavated the site and found his remains.

After the service at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro Stegnerski received a gun salute.

His brother’s caregiver Janice Tunnell was then given the flag that had been laid upon his casket.

The television station reports that Stanley’s remains were place by that of his late brother Henry.
