No Right-To-Work Ordinance for Sussex County

official photo

There will be no right to work ordinance in Sussex County.

The county council voted 4-to-1 yesterday against a measure by council member Rob Arlett who claimed it would have attracted businesses to the county.

But the Salisbury Daily Times reports that it was the potential legal battles and their costs that drove the county council members to turn against the measure.

Council member I. G. Burton warned that the county would be embroiled in litigation that would cost the taxpayers too much to defend the ordinance.

He said that he was willing to work with Delaware lawmakers to approve a statewide measure.

For the moment Burton said the county needed to concentrate on attracting more jobs to southern Delaware including improving the region’s infrastructure.
