The funeral is set tomorrow for Sgt. Rodney Bond Jr., the Delaware state trooper who died suddenly while running with his son last week.
Following his promotion to sergeant two years ago Bond served as a resource officer and was a member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that his father Rodney Sr. was one of the first African American Troopers in the Pennsylvania State Police.
His family writes that he would be remembered not only as family man but someone who mentored and coached others in the community.
His family is asking that instead of flowers donations to go to an education fund for his two sons.
