TOWNSEND, Del. (AP) - Officials say a Delaware house that was built at the end of the 18th century was heavily damaged in a set fire.
Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Robert Fox says the fire at the Vandyke-Heath House in Townsend was reported about 8 a.m. Thursday. He says firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the home and a barn on the property. Fire companies from neighboring counties battled the blaze.
Damage is estimated at $250,000. Investigators say the fires at both the house and barn are arson.
According to the National Register of Historic Places, the Vandyke-Heath House represents the late Georgian/Federal vernacular styles popular 1770-1830.
