There were a host of new laws that went into effect this weekend in Maryland ranging from opioids and health care to marijuana and domestic abuse.
One measure prohibits price gouging by makers and distributors for the sale of essential generic drugs.
Meanwhile, a conviction for marijuana possession can be expunged.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that another law calls for the reduction of the prison population and cutting recidivism with rehabilitation efforts for certain nonviolent crimes.
But gang related offenses will be toughened.
Finally, a new law will permit victims of domestic abuse to ask that an electronic monitoring device be used to track an offender’s location and alert authorities.
