Holly Center "Reimagined"

official photo

Maryland Health and Mental Hygiene Secretary Dennis Schrader told a group yesterday that the Holly Center in Salisbury will not be closed but would be reimagined.

State officials said they would be modernizing the facility and find new uses for empty buildings at the Holly Center.

That drew applause from advocates for the developmentally disabled and local officials during a meeting yesterday at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the plans would include partnering with the Wicomico County Health Department which would move its behavioral health program into the Holly facility.

The paper reports other options included creating a residential treatment center and another space for patients transitioning out of the mental health facility.
