Chincoteague Waterpark Inches Forward

Maddox Family Campground website

The Chincoteague Planning Commission is recommending that the town council give its okay to a controversial waterpark.

But it did so by close vote of 3-to-2 with some new requirements.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that these included providing 50 more parking spaces in addition to the 156 in the proposal.

They also limited the scope of the three clusters of waterslides.

The waterpark would spread out over 2.5 acres inside the Maddox Family Campground.

Blue Water Development Corporation bought the campground last year.

The waterpark is designed to attract more tourism but the proposal also divided the community many of whom spoke out at the meeting.
