Mayor Jake Day declared last night that Salisbury was on track to become one of the great small cities in the country.

It’s only been a year since he took office.

And he touted the city’s progress in that time as he spoked to a packed crowd in the Wicomico Room on the campus of Salisbury University.

“It’s going to take an army of people who are dedicated to changes this community, to keep this progress up. It’s going to take a change in mindset. It’s going to take a change in our self-esteem and how we think about ourselves as a city.”

He pointed to the adoption of the master plans for areas ranging from downtown and the Salisbury Zoo to the Route 13 corridor.

Day also noted that the city has begun to attack homelessness with the housing of eight chronically homeless men, women and children.

And he said that for the second year the city’s drinking water was named the best in the state.

Salisbury University President Janet Dudley-Eshbach also spoke praising the improving relationship between the city and the school.
