Sussex County Affordable Housing Law in for Possible Changes

all-free-download

The Sussex County affordable housing law could be getting some changes.

There would be a 20 percent density bonus for developers along with expediting a review of the project.

In addition, tenants will be able to stay in their units even after they stop being qualified to stay in such housing even if they pay the market rate.

The county’s Fair Housing Compliance Officer Brandy Nauman told WBOC that the law was enacted at the height of the housing boom and that it was not viable during these tough economic times.

Nauman also recommends affordable housing development on the east side of Sussex County.

It has been declared as an Area of Opportunity by the Delaware State Housing Authority.

The landlord will also now be responsible for determining if someone is eligible for affordable housing.

In the past the county has done that.
