Maryland: The Hunt for Zika

CBC

Centers for Disease Control and Prvention

Maryland facilities are on the hunt for the Zika virus.

The state only accounts for 3 percent of the cases nationally.

But there are five agencies that are searching for the virus

They range from the Johns Hopkins Hospital and military installations like Walter Reed to the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in Bethesda.

The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene told WBOC that Maryland is a natural home for such research given the number of health related institutions in the state.

There have been more than 100 cases actually contracted in the United States – all of them in Florida.

But there have been 39-hundred nationwide which were acquired while traveling abroad.
