Young Eagle Flies Again After Broken Wing

Wildlife Center

CHARLES CITY, Va. (AP) - A young bald eagle that suffered a broken wing is set to be released in Virginia after being nursed back to health.

The eagle will be released by the Wildlife Center of Virginia at noon Wednesday at Berkeley Plantation.

The bird was found on the ground in June near an active eagle nest. The eagle, which suffered a fracture in the left wing, wasn't able to fly and was taken to the Wildlife Center in Waynesboro.

The veterinary team performed surgery on the eagle to repair the fracture. After months of rehabilitation, the staff says the eagle is ready to return to the wild.

The Wildlife Center says the bird is likely a female. Officials will put a transmitter on the bird so they can track her travels.
