Top Forensic Official Quits in Delaware After 18 Months

The Delaware Division of Forensic Science is now without a director.

Michael Wolf took the job 18 months ago after a scandal that rocked its crime lab.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that he quit in July and told the paper he had done so because of a lack of resources and staffing.

The division’s annual report found that the agency was struggling to keep up with homicides, rape and drug deaths.

In 2014 the lab had been hit with evidence thefts and mismanagement.

Among the most serious issues Wolf sited was the dismissal of drug cases because of the failure to process the evidence quickly enough and the potential loss of accreditation by 2019 if the lab continues to be housed at its current location in Wilmington.
