It’s not been a good year for peaches in Maryland.
State Agriculture Secretary Ed Kee says that growers say that the April frost that hit the region will have a serious impact on the summer crop.
WBOC reports that complicating the problem was the warm month of March which caused an early bloom.
Kee said that the impact on farms varied with one reporting as much as a 70 to 90 percent loss while others experience a 50 percent hit.
As a result some farmers have turned to growing alternative crops like melons and blue berries.
