BALTIMORE (AP) - A CSX official says a freight train has derailed in a tunnel in Baltimore, but no injuries or leaks have been reported.
CSX spokesman Rob Doolittle said by telephone that 10 cars derailed around 5:30 a.m. Monday in the Howard Street tunnel.
Doolittle says the train headed from Philadelphia to Cumberland, Maryland, consists of eight locomotives and 124 cars, including 18 loaded cars. He says there were hazardous materials aboard, including one hazardous load among the derailed cars, but there are no reports of leaks or injuries.
Doolittle says rail traffic is stopped in the area. He says the line is only used by CSX and Amtrak service isn't affected.
He says the situation is still being assessed and the cause is under investigation.
