STAFFORD, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police say a pilot was seriously injured when a small airplane crash-landed near Interstate 95 in Stafford County.

Police said in a news release that the plane was conducting a high-speed taxi on the runway at Stafford Regional Airport on Monday evening when the aircraft unintentionally lifted off the runway. Police say the aircraft cleared Centreport Parkway before crash-landing into an embankment next to southbound I-95.

Police say the pilot, 62-year-old Roberta Boucher of Fredericksburg, was taken to Mary Washington Hospital with serious injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police say the Federal Aviation Administration was responding and the National Transportation Safety Board was also notified. The state police crash investigation is ongoing.
