DANVILLE, Va. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate at the Danville City Jail has died.

Sheriff Mike Mondul said in a news release that inmates notified deputies Saturday evening that a fellow inmate wasn't feeling well and needed help. The inmate, 58-year-old Larry Andrews, told a deputy he was OK, but the deputy called for supervisors, who helped Andrews to the nurse's station. Rescue personnel were called after his vital signs were found to be abnormal.

Officials say Andrews was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center, where he later died. Andrews was incarcerated in November 2015 for a parole violation and a probation violation from Campbell County. Officials say he had notable health issues when he entered the jail.

Andrews' body was taken to the medical examiner's officer to determine the cause of death.
