Verizon Strikers Take Aim at Call Centers in Delaware

Forty thousand Verizon workers went on strike yesterday with 600 potential jobs at state in Delaware.

And the striking workers the state are taking aim at the company’s call center.

Maria Martin a member of the Communication Workers of America Local 13101 told the Wilmington News Journal that the key issue was protecting jobs in the First State.

She said that if the call centers are shutdown it would leave 50 people out of work in southern Delaware.

Martin added that another 100 would be impact in New Castle County.

The News Journal reports that CWA says that Verizon has hired more than 5-thousand employees outside the United States to handle customer service calls.

Verizon officials say they have trying to work with the union to come up with a fair contract.

The current contract expired in August.
