MD Tax Relief Package to be Unveiled This Week

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The chairman of the Maryland Senate budget committee says details about tax relief proposals will be made part of legislation later this week.

Sen. Edward Kasemeyer said Tuesday in an interview after the Senate's morning session that the relief will be in the range of about $50 million to $60 million over several years, starting next year to get taxpayers some relief.

He says lawmakers want to act prudently and not go too far, because it's unknown what could happen in the economy.

The Baltimore County Democrat says they will be phased in through the state's earned income tax credit and decreases in the state's personal income tax rates over a four- or five-year period.
