BALTIMORE (AP) - A Baltimore schools police officer has been charged after cellphone video surfaced showing him slapping and kicking a teen at a school.
Online court records show that 44-year-old Anthony Spence was charged Tuesday with second-degree assault, second-degree child abuse by a custodian and misconduct in office in a March 1 incident. He posted bond and was released Wednesday.
City police began a criminal investigation into last week's incident at REACH Partnership School after the eight-second clip surfaced. Spence and a female officer seen in the video standing by were put on paid administrative leave while the school system and city police investigate. School Police Chief Marshall Goodwin is also on leave, but officials haven't said why.
The school district has its own police force separate from city police.
