Ninety-one year old Justice Henry Ridgely Horsey died last Thursday.

He served on Delaware’s Supreme Court for 16 years from 1978 to 1994.

WBOC reports that as a justice he issued more than 200 opinions from the bench many of which became land mark decisions.

The most significant was a decision which set the Supreme Court format for the 1986 Batson case which ruled that attorneys could not keep prospective jurors off the case based on race.

Speaking on behalf of the court Justice Randy Holland said it was an honor to serve with him.
