Overhaul of Delaware Labor Dept. After Allegations of Racism

official photo

There’s a recommendation that the Delaware Department of Labor be overhauled in the wake of an investigation that found allegations of racism and an unhealthy work environment.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that it has learned under a Freedom of Information Act request that the deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget has called for changes to deal with a lack of professionalism and cultural insensitivity.

The recommendations range from opening lines of community with employees and clearing up the complaint process to creating a diversity committee and holding employees accountable.

The News Journal reports that the report and recommendations were given to John McMahon who was labor secretary at the time.

He stepped down last month.

Around ten percent of the Department’s employees were interviewed during the investigation which was ordered by Governor Jack Markell.
