BALTIMORE (AP) - A Baltimore judge is refusing to postpone the trials of three police officers in the Freddie Gray case.
But the rulings released Thursday could become moot if Maryland's highest court agrees to review the cases of all five officers whose trials could hinge on whether a sixth can be forced to testify against them. He is Officer William Porter, whose manslaughter trial ended in a hung jury in December.
Circuit Judge Barry Williams has ruled that Porter must testify against Officer Caesar Goodson and Sgt. Alicia White, but cannot be compelled to testify against Lt. Brian Rice and officers Garrett Miller and Edward Nero.
Appeals are pending in the Court of Special Appeals. But the attorney general's office has now asked the highest court, the Court of Appeals, to intervene.
