Repairs Underway Along Beaches Hit by Storm

Don Rush

Repair crews are out along the Ocean City shoreline repairing damage done by the recent snow storm.

The beach cleanup is being carried out in conjunction with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

It’s estimated that as much as 880-thousand cubic yards of sand was lost.

The initial assessment last week was $21 million.

Mayor Rick Meeham told WBOC that this is only for the beaches adding that an official estimate for homeowners and businesses has not yet been released.

The resort is urging businesses and homeowners to get in touch with the Office of Emergency Management.

Rehoboth Beach

In Rehoboth Beach the storm on Tuesday washed away some of the dunes that were recently replenished.

But the Wilmington News Journal reports that there was no significant damage.

In addition, the boardwalk appeared to be untouched.

The storm had been expected to much stronger but saw only 2 to 4 inches of snow for the northern and central Delaware.
