NEWARK, Del. (AP) - The University of Delaware is starting its own bicycle-sharing program on campus.
WDEL-FM reports that university officials presented the plan to Newark City Council on Monday night in hopes that the city will partner in the program and add the bike-sharing opportunity to municipal property.
University Parking Supervisor Ban Phommachanh says the university will be the first in Delaware to try a bike-sharing program. The program will allow a person to rent out a bicycle for a few hours and then return it to a kiosk when they're done.
The university is planning to launch the program this spring and initially place about 75 bikes on campus.
Newark officials say they'll examine the possible effects of adding the bike share program to the city.
