Dominion Solar Project Rejected in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - State regulators have rejected Dominion Virginia Power's first proposed large-scale solar project in the state.

The State Corporation Commission said Tuesday that Dominion failed to demonstrate that it considered third-party market alternatives, as required by law, for the 20-megawatt Remington Power Station in Fauquier County. The project would provide enough power for 5,000 homes at peak generation.

The commission said Dominion can reapply after considering whether cheaper third-party alternatives are available.

Dominion said in a statement that it was disappointed in the setback and believes the project "is among the most cost-effective ways to add solar generated capacity in Virginia." The company said it is considering its options.
