CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. (AP) - Police say a Chincoteague pony disappeared from carnival grounds has been found dead on the property.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Chincoteague Police Department announced the discovery of the pony's remains on Thursday.
Police say a lawn maintenance contractor working in the area found the pony's remains Wednesday night in a corner where a chain-link fence, several trees and bushes are located.
The pony, named Dreamer's Faith, disappeared from the corral area at the Chinoteague Volunteer Fire Department's carnival grounds in September. Authorities initially believed that the pony had been stolen.
Police say the case is considered closed. No signs of criminal activity were found.
