Baltimore Settles Federal Lawsuit Over Rough Ride in Police Van

BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore is expected to pay $95,000 to settle a federal lawsuit over an alleged "rough ride" in a police van.

The Board of Estimates is expected on Wednesday to agree to the settlement with 28-year-old Christine Abbott, who claimed she was slammed against the van wall during a ride after her arrest in 2012.

The impending settlement comes as the city is preparing for the trials of six police officers involved in Freddie Gray's arrest and transport. Gray died after suffering a spinal injury while riding in the van, and riots broke out in protest.
