WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - United States citizens can now board a private jet in Delaware and fly directly to Cuba.
The News Journal of Wilmington reports that JFI Jets, a charter air carrier based in California, announced last week that it has received federal clearance to fly to Havana from multiple airports throughout the country - including New Castle Airport.
In a statement posted on the company's website, JFI Jets President David J. Rimmer says the company will also offer the flights from Long Island, New York and multiple California locations.
Americans can legally travel to Cuba in groups if they can show their trips are for family visits, research, educational activities, humanitarian efforts or a handful of other purposes.
About 1,440 Delaware residents identified themselves as Cuban-American in the 2010 U.S. Census.
