Curfew Plan Draws Crowd at Salisbury Meeting

official photos

Salisbury residents got another chance to weigh in last night on a proposed curfew for teenagers after three shooting deaths in eleven days.

It was held at St. Paul’s AME church where around 50 parents, students and residents showed up.

Specifics of the proposed ordinance were laid out by Mayor Jim Ireton and Salisbury Police Chief Barbara Duncan.

Those between the ages of 14 and 17 would have to be at home between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. from Friday through Sunday.

On the other week nights the curfew would go into effect at 10 p.m.

WBOC reports that there were questions about the impact on parents and evidence that such curfews work.

In addition, there were concerns about where the teens would be detained if found out past the curfew.
