Mismanagement of Funds Alleged at Delaware Senior Center

A state audit of the Bridgeville Senior Center found more than $350-thousand has been mismanaged.

State Auditor Thomas Wagner said that the condition of the books made it impossible to determine how the money was spent.

He pointed to the use of Quickbooks as one reason there were so many problems in addition to not having an accountant or bookkeeper.

But, Wagner added, there appeared to be “some self-dealing”.

The center’s executive director Annette Cannon told WBOC she is not sure how the center wound up this situation.

The audit said that the problems began to show up after Cannon came on board in November of 2013.

Wagner said that the center does have time to clean up the problems.

But if not, he adds, it would lose state support.
