HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - The city of Hagerstown is celebrating its long love affair with baseball even as its minor league team looks for a way out.
Tuesday's City Council agenda includes formal recognition of the Hagerstown Suns' 35th anniversary. The city also is celebrating the establishment in 1915 of its first professional team, the Hagerstown Blues.
Meanwhile, the Suns have a July 31 deadline for reaching a deal that would move the team to Spotsylvania, Virginia.
The Suns previously planned to move to Fredericksburg, Virginia, but financing for a stadium there fell through last fall.
The Suns are a Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Both teams have complained for years about the condition of 85-year-old Municipal Stadium but city officials haven't been able to muster public support for a new ballpark.
